Raystown Lake

Raystown Lake

A southbound passenger train, having just departed Otter Creek, traverses the trestle over Raystown Lake much to the excitement of children at an Open House.

Raystown Lake

A Pennsylvania Doodlebug, towing an OC&P coach northward, crosses the enormous trestle over Raystown Lake. A loaded coal train is parked on the GSN siding below.

Immediately north of Crystal Lake Station, the OC&P passes high over the GSN main twice as it simultaneously gains elevation and crosses Raystown Lake to reach Otter Creek. The name Raystown Lake has double meaning. It is the name of a gorgeous resort lake in south central Pennsylvania near the East Broad Top Railroad where several members have taken vacation. Second, because of its position at the end of an aisle and very low to the ground scenery, it serves as the premier train watching location for children during open houses. One way the Garden State Model Railway Club remembers our distinguished member, Ray Allen, a devoted husband, loving father, tireless worker, devout Christian, and a true brother among those who enjoy railroading and model railroading was by naming the lake as such. We miss his laugh, his spirit, his enthusiasm, and his love for life.
